About This Spot

From the moment you step through the doors of Restaurant Don Fernando, the world outside seems to soften, replaced by a quiet sanctuary tucked into the heart of San Vicente’s Centro. This isn’t just a seafood restaurant—it’s a gentle invitation to slow down and savor time surrounded by dappled sunlight filtering through lush greenery, where the air carries the mingled scents of sea salt and fresh herbs.

The pace here encourages a distinct unhurried rhythm. Tables are dotted beneath the canopy of an intimate courtyard, each offering a little pocket of calm where conversations drift like the slow flicker of candlelight. There’s a natural ease to the space, neither fussy nor rushed, where the focus gently shifts to the food as a shared experience, a craft handed down through generations.

What unfolds in this cozy hideaway is a dialogue between fire and sea. The hallmark Pescado Zarandeado, grilled slowly over open flames, captures the essence of this coastal tradition with subtle char and tender, juicy flesh that speaks of patience and care. Accompaniments, like charred tortillas filled with beans or playful touches of chile oil, bring a lively warmth that lingers softly on the palate without overpowering the freshness of the ocean's bounty.

Your visit here is a thoughtful meal measured in moments: the call ahead to ensure your fish is ready, the delicate anticipation as the kitchen works its magic, the harmony of flavors that feels timeless yet distinctly rooted in place. The quiet joy of sharing shrimp, octopus, and other seafood treasures—each bite a reminder of the simplest things done well—resonates deeply in this setting.

Evenings fold into night with a mellow grace, where a gently poured michelada or a shared pitcher of sangria can find their way into the conversation, enhancing those human connections fostered under the leafy canopy. It’s a small local gem that asks you to lean in, to listen closely to the subtle stories of flavor and community that are meant to be discovered slowly.

I was visiting San Vincente for the day a few weeks ago and stumbled upon this amazing little restaurant. From the outside you could not tell that once you walked in you’d be in a lush jungle courtyard of nature and amazing food. I had yet to have red snapper or anything cooked zarandeado style so that is what I got. This might have been the best meal I have had in Mexico so far. Wow. The freshness, the flavours, the portions the presentation. Unbelievable. Truly a one of a kind spot you must try at least once!

This has to be one of the best Pescado Zarandeado (grilled fish) in the other in Puerto Vallarta/ Nayarit. You need call in your fish order 2 hours before, come enjoy some Aguachile (Negro&Verde) have a cold Pacifico and just chill and wait for the fish to come out. Oh man this was so darn good and lasting with flavor. Watch out for the chili macho. Stinking spicy

We saw a YouTube video about this place so on this trip to PV we took the 45 min Uber trip....upon arrival we we were asked if we had a reservation....I panicked as We arrived at opening and we're the only ones there. We were told the Pescado Zaradeado would be 1 hour and 15 min.....oh thank you!!!! Order ahead...ALL the other tables had reserved flags on them and the place quickly filled up. We ordered drinks and some appetizers so we had no problem waiting excitedly for our fish! Let me say....this was so incredibly tasty and well worth the trip! The 4 of us devoured the 3kg fish with all the fixings and walked out completely stuffed. Oh....the appetizers I tried we very good too. Shrimp empanada and my favorite the shrimp ceviche tostada. We can't wait to come back to Puerto Vallarta and make Restaurant Don Fernando an annual excursion!

Beyond anything that I can describe. It is THE place to try pescado zarandeado. The family has been using this recipe for generations and the fish is slowly cooked and charbroiled over flames. The fish is flavorful, soft, tender and so juicy. It comes with charbroiled tortillas filled with beans. It’s truly a delight and a craft worth driving for. It is recommended that you call ahead to order your fish since they cannot guarantee you a fish if you try to order upon arrival.

Open from 1pm - 6:30pm. (Thurs - Sunday only). Was there at 11:30am and ordered a 1 kg SeaBass for dinner. Fish with Zarandedo sauce grilled to perfection. Shrimp was delicious. Pupol (Octopus) was more like Squids. Must try their chili oil (one of the best) if you like spicy. Sangria was excellent and reasonably priced. Enjoyed our feast and had to pack shrimp and octopus to go. Salvador’s service was wonderful. Worth the trip there from PV RZ.

Warning : You must call to reserve your fish . Cash only You’ll be disappointed if you go there for fish and find out that you reserve it. We had to go back 2 days later and it was worth it . The typical family style restaurant makes the atmosphere nice . You can eat other plates and drink a beer. Parking can be tricky. ..

This authentic Mexican restaurant situated in San Vicente serves the most amazing Pescado Sarandeado at a very reasonable price. You do have to call And book ahead to ensure they have the amount of fish you will require. Also need to get there early as they stop serving around 6:30/7 PM

After watching Mark Wiens YouTube video on Restaurante Don Fernando in San Vicente we decided to make a trip there from Bucerias. Of course, we reserved a 1 kg fish a day ahead of time for 2 pm on a Wednesday. There were only two other tables with customers when we arrived and they found our order and the fish arrived at our table in 7-8 minutes along with an order for ceviche tostada with camarones. The fish or pescado zarendado was accompanied by 4 taco friotes. Of course it was delicious accompanied by condiments and picked onions. The best and most flavorful part of the fish was the spine which despite the bones was incredible. We doused it with all the sauces but also liked the vinegar from the onions. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant and quiet. It was a wonderful experience. Also don’t miss the vendor across the street in the plaza selling great stuffed sourdough bread. He lived in LA for many years and that bread is outstanding!!!! His English is perfect.
